Von Wafer Leads Shaanxi To China Playoff Semis

Florida St’s Von Wafer Signs In China CBA

Former Florida State star and NBA player Von Wafer poured in 32 points to lead Shaanxi over Chongqing 111-75 to sweep their China NBL league playoff quarterfinals series 4-0.

 

With the win, Shaanxi now moves on to the NBL semifinals.

 

Wafer, a 6-5, 209-pound shooting guard, sank 4 threes, while shooting a red-hot 82 percent (9-of-11) from two-point range.

 

He also had 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in the game.

 

Troy Gillenwater (New Mexico St) added 12 points and 12 rebounds for Shaanxi in the win.

 

For Chongqing, Yang Wang (198-90) had 22 points in the season-ending loss.

 

But the star of the game was Wafer, who is averaging 34 points, 3.6 assists, and 5 rebounds this season for Shaanxi.

 

A college star at Florida State, Wafer led the team in scoring as a sophomore in 2004-05, averaging 12.5 points and 2.5 rebounds.

 

The 39th overall pick in the 2005 Draft, he averaged 5.3 points and 1.2 rebounds in six NBA seasons with the Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, Blazers, Rockets, Celtics, and Magic.

 

A prep standout at Pineview High School (Lisbon, LA), Wafer averaged 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists as a junior.
