ESPN No. 83 ranked high school senior shooting guard Collin Gillespie has committed to Villanova.
The 6-2 combo guard is averaging 20.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.5 assists for Archbishop Wood HS (Warminster, PA) this season.
“I chose ‘Nova because the coaches were really honest with me and I trust them,” Gillespie told Scout. “Coach [Jay] Wright and the staff sat down with me and my parents and he explained how I could come in and contribute if I work hard. It’s just a place where I can succeed not only on the basketball court, but in the classroom and even after basketball is over.”
“I play with a chip on my shoulder and [have] toughness,” Gillespie added. “I feel with the way I shoot the ball and the way I get teammates involved and pass the ball I could help [Villanova] win games.”
According to website City of Basketball Love, the Wildcats are getting a gem in Gillespie.
“A fearless competitor with a game to match, Gillespie has become one of the best guards in the Philadelphia region during the first half of his senior season,” reads their analysis. “Has shown the ability to be a full-time point guard with strong on-ball skills, terrific court vision and the ability to make difficult passes on the money. Strong outside shooter both off the catch and the bounce, and a much-improved creator and finisher as well.”
At Villanova, Gillespie will join fellow 2017 recruits No. 45 Jermaine Samuels and No. 32 PF Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree.
The Wildcats beat out the likes of Drexel, Rider, and Fairleigh Dickinson to land Gillespie.
