247sports’ No. 22 ranked high school sophomore shooting guard Jarren McAllister has committed to Virginia Tech.
The 6-3 McAllister averaged 13.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals this season for Heritage High School (Wake Forest, NC), leading the team to a 21-8 record and the state playoffs’ second round.
He had double figures in 24 of the school’s 29 games this year, including pouring in a season high 23 points on Jan. 8 against Millbrook.
“It was just how [the Virginia Tech team] communicated and interacted with each other,” McAllister told Scout.com on why he chose the Hokies. “I just liked how they were all a big family.”
McAllister, whose main recruiter was VA Tech assistant coach Steve Roccaforte, made a visit to the school back in February.
“Meeting with [Roccaforte], I could tell that they really wanted me,” said McAllister. “He just made me feel like I was at home.”
“I feel like I can play either the two or three,” added McAllister on where he can fit in with the Hokies. “I think I’m one of those guards who can be a combo guard and play multiple positions. I can just fit into whatever coach needs.”
McAllister, who plays for the AAU team Garner Road, also had an offer from VCU.
