The USA Basketball Men’s AmeriCup Team for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas Qualifiers has been announced.
The 12-man squad includes 11 active NBA G League players.
The USA team will begin training camp Nov. 17 in Greensboro, NC.
They will then play first round games against Puerto Rico on Nov. 23 at the University of Central Florida’s CFE Arena in Orlando, and on Nov. 26 against Mexico at the Greensboro, NC Coliseum Complex Fieldhouse.
“USA Basketball has put together a versatile roster that has a mix of youth and experience highlighted by our four returning players from this summer’s AmeriCup gold medal team,” said USA coach Jeff Van Gundy. “Puerto Rico and Mexico are outstanding teams that are extremely well coached, and we will have our hands full in our games against them.”
After the November contests, the US will play additional first-round World Cup Qualifying games in February (against Cuba on Feb. 23, 2018 and Puerto Rico on Feb. 26), and in June/July (against Mexico on June 28 and Cuba on July 1).
At the conclusion of the first round, the top three teams in each of the four, first-round groups advance to the second round.
The qualifying games are used to determine the teams that will compete at the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which will be held Aug. 31-Sept. 15 in China.
