No. 30 Jr C Tamel Pearson Commits To UAB

ESPN No. 30 ranked high school junior center Tamel Pearson has committed to Alabama-Birmingham.

The 6-8 big out of Morgan Park HS (Chicago, IL) led his Nike EYBL Mac Irvin Fire squad in rebounding this spring, averaging 6.5 points and 5.7 rebounds.

Pearson also helped lead Morgan Park to the Class 3A state title this year.

“When I first got there, I felt really welcome,” Pearson told the Chicago Tribune of UAB. “It was a great experience, from the coaches to the players who were very cool, and it was very uplifting. They were very straight with me with everything they said. It’s a great school.”

PrepHoopsIllinois’ Scott Burgess believes that Blazers are getting a valuable player Pearson.

“In July, he opened more eyes playing against quality competition, even picking up a few high-major offers,” wrote Burgess of Pearson. “I think UAB got a quality mid-major player who will be able to be an impact big man for their program.”

“He should be able to come in as a freshman and contribute on the boards, defensively, and running the floor,” added Burgess. “With the strides he flashed offensively on the circuit, the UAB coaching staff has a chance to continue developing him as an offensive player throughout his career.”

Pearson prides himself on being a complete player.

“My strengths are low-post scoring, running the floor, blocking the shots on the defensive end,” Pearson told al.com. “On the offensive end, I can pick and pop, shoot it, handle it and make decisions.”

Alabama-Birmingham beat out the likes of New Mexico State, Washington State, Missouri State, and Oklahoma State to land Pearson.
