string(2543) "ESPN No. 5 ranked high school junior Trevon Duval (Advanced Prep International) poured in 25 points with 7 assists to lead Team Drive past Team Clutch 140-136 in OT at the Under Armour Elite 24 showcase in Brooklyn.
“Trevon Duval has become appointment TV before he's become a high school senior,” CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein said via Twitter. “Whatever "it" is, he has. The next elite PG in the sport.”
The annual game, which features some of high school basketball’s top recruits, took place at scenic Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 2 on New York City’s East River.
No. 10 Soph Zion Williamson (Spartanburg Day School) added 23 points on a perfect 10-of-10 field goal shooting, while No. 12 Jr Hamidou Diallo (Putnam Science Academy) scored 21 for Team Drive in Saturday’s victory.
For Team Clutch, No. 36 Jr PG Isaiah Washington (St. Raymond High School) dropped 36 points – 2nd all-time in Elite 24 history behind Lance Stephenson’s 38 points – while No. 19 Jr Austin Wiley (Spain Park High School/ Auburn) had 22 points with 12 rebounds, and No. 24 Jr Jalek Felton (Mullins High School/UNC) chipped in 16 points in the loss.
After scoring only 5 points in the first half, Isaiah Washington went off, pouring in a whopping 31 points in the second half and OT for Team Clutch, which trailed 66-49 halftime and never led in the game.
“I was just wanted to represent my city and make sure nobody counts me out,” Washington, who is from the Bronx, NY, told USA Today. “[Duval] is a good player. Everybody has their days.”
Down by 7 points at 125-118 with 1:18 left in the game, Team Clutch fought back to within 4 points at 127-123 on a Washington three with 34.2 seconds left.
Behind by 2 points at 129-127, No. 8 So Gerald Liddell’s (Byron P. Steele II High School) inside shot with 0.5 seconds left was goaltended by Hamidou Diallo, tying the score at 129 and forcing the game into overtime.
In OT, a quick three by No. 34 Jr Nickeil Alexander-Walker (Hamilton Heights Christian Academy/Virginia Tech) put Team Drive ahead in the extra session and they never looked back.
With so many outstanding performances in the game, Under Armour named six Elite 24 MVPs: Duval, Williamson and Diallo for Team Drive; and Washington, Wiley and Felton for Team Clutch.
