The Minnesota Timberwolves have unveiled the logo for their new D-League team, the Iowa Wolves.
The NBA club bought the NBADL team, formerly known as the Iowa Energy, in March.
Now the team will be known as the Wolves in a marketing rebrand
“I am very excited to bring the Iowa Wolves into our family and to continue to expand the footprint of the Timberwolves throughout the Upper Midwest,” Timberwolves Majority Owner Glen Taylor told dleague.nba.com “We explored many options as we looked to acquire a Development League team and in the end, it was the success of the franchise that existed here, the proximity to the Twin Cities and the vibrant nature of the city of Des Moines that made Iowa the clear choice.”
Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau said the new D-League affiliate will be a very important player development tool.
“If you study the history of our team, the foundation was built with minor-league players who came up and did great things for us,” said Thibodeau. “Now we’ll have a chance where we can use our system, our terminology and it will be a very useful tool for us. We will be very hands on with the basketball staff [in Iowa], ensuring they teach players how we want to do things at the NBA level.”
Iowa will continue to play at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
