The basketball team for Sierra Canyon High School (Chatsworth, CA), a private school just outside of Los Angeles, is loaded with the kids of NBA stars.
This season’s roster includes Scotty Pippen Jr., son of the Bulls great; Kenyon Martin Jr., whose father was the No. 1 pick in the 2000 NBA Draft; Duane Washington Jr., son of former NBA player Duane Sr. and nephew of Lakers star Derek Fisher; and Terren Frank, son of ex-NBA player Tellis Frank.
Between the players’ fathers and uncles, they have 11 NBA championship rings.
“Eleven is a lot for one team,” sophomore forward Terren Frank told USA Today. “That’s a lot for two teams!”
Also added to this group of NBA offspring, who are all new to the team this year, is transfer Cassius Stanley, ESPN’s No. 11 ranked junior.
“Clearly, they’re from families that have had great success in their pro careers,” said Sierra Canyon head coach Andre Chevalier. “We have the same culture of success. Here, our guys are pushed on the court, but they’re competing in the classroom too. That’s one of the things that was attractive to the guys and their parents.”
Last season 2017 No. 1 Sr and current Duke freshman star Marvin Bagley III led Sierra Canyon to a 27-3 record. The school also won a state championship in 2015.
“We want to be the Duke of high schools,” said Sierra Canyon head of school Jim Skrumbis. “The goal was to marry high-level academics and high-level athletics.”
