SDSU’s Jamaal Franklin Scores 58 In China

Former San Diego State star Jamaal Franklin poured in 33 points to lead the Sichuan Blue Whales past the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions 120-116 in the Chinese Basketball Association.

The 6-5 shooting guard shot 73 percent (8-for-11) from two-point range, while sinking 8-of-11 from the line.

Franklin also had 7 assists, 11 rebounds, and 2 steals in the game.

Iranian center Hamed Haddadi added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Sichuan in the win.

For Guangsha, Courtney Fortson (Arkansas) had 41 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in the loss.

But the star of this game was Franklin, who is ninth in the CBA in scoring this season, averaging 30.8 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 5.6 assists for Sichuan.

A college star at San Diego State, Franklin led the team in scoring (17.0), rebounding (9.5), assists (3.3) and steals (1.6) in 2012-13, becoming the only Division I player in America to top his squad in all four categories that season.

A two-time Associated Press All-American, Franklin was named to the Mountain West first-team twice and led the Aztecs to the 2013 NCAA tournament.

The Memphis Grizzlies picked Franklin in the second round (41st overall) in the 2013 draft.

In the NBA, Franklin played parts of two NBA seasons with the Grizzlies and Nuggets.
