Former University of Rhode Island star Xavier Munford has been named the NBA D-League’s Performer of the Week.
The 6-3 point guard averaged 27.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals to lead the Greensboro Swarm to a 2-1 record last week.
Munford poured in a season high 34 points in a 116-111 loss to the Delaware 87ers on Nov. 21.
On Nov. 25, he had 26 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals in a 109-88 win over the Erie BayHawks.
On the season, Munford is averaging 22.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.6 steals.
Last year he was a NBADL All-Star with the Bakersfield Jam.
A college star at Rhode Island, Munford led the team in scoring as a senior, averaging 16.9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.
He scored over 1,000 points for the Rams in only two seasons.
Before transferring to Rhode Island, Munford played at JUCO Iowa Western College, averaging an ICCAC conference high 16.6 points a game on 37 percent shooting from three, and leading the school to a 24-9 record.
Undrafted, Munford played with the Memphis Grizzlies last season, averaging 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 14 games.
In the process he became the first Rhode Island player to debut in an NBA game since Lamar Odom back in 1999 (according to the Providence Journal).
