Oklahoma has handed Finland center Hannes Polla.
The 6-11, 265-pound big man is out of Helsinki Basketball Academy.
“Hannes is a scorer on the block and an offensive force,” Helsinki Basketball Academy coach Hanno Mottola told Scout. “He’s an old school center that will translate in the Big 12.”
“The intriguing part at a high-level program like Oklahoma is they want to make him a feature center,” Mottola added.
Polla averaged 7.6 points and 8.2 rebounds in five games for the Finland U18 national team at the 2016 Nordic Championship.
His strong performance at Nordic included a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double with 2 blocks in a 71-56 loss to Sweden.
Polla also was the leading scorer and rebounder for Namika Lahti Juniorit, when he averaged 16.1 points and 8.8 rebounds in the U19 League in 2014-15.
He was out most of last year with an injured ACL.
At Oklahoma, Polla will join fellow 2017 recruit ESPN No. 27 ranked power forward Brady Manek out of Harrah High School (OK).
Last season coach Lon Kruger led the Sooners 29-8 record and the 2016 NCAA Tournament Final Four, powered by DI’s second-leading scorer Buddy Hield (25ppg).
The Sooners beat out the likes of Tulane and Penn State to land the Finnish star.
