Scout.com’s No. 32 ranked high school senior power forward Fabian White has committed to the University of Houston.
The 6-7 White averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds last season for Atascocita (Humble, Texas), leading the team to a 38-0 record before losing to DeSoto in the 6A State Championship game.
“It is with great honor that I am proud to announce that I’m staying home and committing to the University of Houston,” White said via Twitter. “I m also grateful for my family, friends and coaches who have supported me over the years.”
“I would like to extend my gratitude and utmost appreciation to all the schools that have shown interest and offered me an opportunity to not only further my basketball career, but also continue my education,” White added.
White said he chose the Cougars because he trusts head coach Kelvin Sampson.
“They have a tradition of winning there, and I know Coach Sampson is going to bring it back,” White told Scout.. “He is a great coach, and I absolutely believe in his vision to [build] a team that can win a national championship.”
“Coach Sampson wants me to be someone who can either post up a smaller defender and score, or take a bigger defender off the dribble and score,” added White. “Basically he wants me to be a matchup nightmare.”
At Houston, White will join fellow 2017 recruit and Texas native, 6-4 shooting guard Mike Adewunmi.
The Cougars beat out the likes of Arkansas, Iowa State, SMU, Boise State, and Memphis to get White.
