ESPN No. 32 ranked high school senior power forward Sean Mobley has committed to VCU.
The 6-9 big man out of powerhouse Montverde Academy (FL) made noise on the spring Adidas Uprising circuit when he shot a red-hot 40 percent from three for CP25 Southeastern Elite.
He also had a strong showing at the Summer Havoc in July.
“After talking with my family, we have decided that the best opportunity for me to further my basketball career and education would be to attend Virginia Commonwealth University and play for coach [Will] Wade and his staff,” Mobley said via Twitter.
Mobley he made up his mind to join the Rams after visiting the school last weekend.
“I like the school a lot,” Mobley told HoopSeen.com “I love Coach Wade and the rest of the staff. They’re making moves in the right direction.”
Mobley’s game is a great fit for VCU.
“The addition of Mobley gives VCU a 6-9 skilled big man who can [play] positions from the shooting guard to power forward, and quite possibly the five at times if needed, in the Rams’ uptempo system,” wrote Ram Nation’s Mat Shelton-Eide. “Mobley is considered a “glue guy” with a well-rounded set of skills including not only an ability to grab rebounds at 6’9 but hit open threes and find other open shooters as well with great court vision.”
At VCU, Mobley joins fellow 2017 recruits No. 99 Lavar Batts, and No. 45 center Marcus Santos-Silva.
The Rams beat out the likes of NC State, Wake Forest, Dayton, and West Virginia to get Mobley.
