Illinois Gets No. 29 Sr Ayo Dosunmu

ESPN No. 29 ranked high school senior Ayo Dosunmu has narrowed his college list down to his final two schools.

They are: Illinois and Wake Forest.

“Illinois is selling Dosunmu as being the player to stay home and turn the program around,” wrote Scout’s Brian Snow. “While Wake Forest wants him to be the cherry on top of what could be one of the best classes in recent memory at the school.”

The 6-4 point guard averaged 22 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds last season for Morgan Park High School (Chicago), leading the team to the Class 3A state championship.

He had a strong summer, averaging a whopping 23.2 points with 3.1 assists for the Mac Irvin Fire in the Nike EYBL.

He’s also tore it up at the NBA Players Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, VA, averaging 16 points on a blistering 71 percent shooting (20-of-28) through the first three games.

His Morgan Park high school coach Nick Irvin said that Dosunmu is oozing with talent.

“When you talk about a kid being a ‘ballplayer,’ that’s what he is,” coach Irvin told the Chicago Sun Times. “He’s a point guard with great size who sees the floor and makes plays off the dribble. He’s just one of those smooth, big point guards in the mold of a Jason Kidd or Gary Payton.”

Scout loves Dosunmu’s game.

“He’s long, has a very quick first step and is a good athlete,” reads Scout’s analysis. “Dosunmu looks to drive the ball and consistently gets into the paint. He has good vision and is a quality passer.”

“But he’s also equipped to score once he gets in the paint,” adds the website. “He finishes well through contact, is capable of tough, high glass finishes and has runners in his arsenal. Defensively, Dosunmu has a lot of potential, because of his length, instincts and lateral quickness.”

Stay tuned.
