The NBA’s Sergio Rodriguez has signed with CSKA Moscow of Russia’s VTB league.
The 6-3 point guard comes from the Philadelphia 76ers, where he averaged a career-high 7.8 points and 5.1 assists last season.
“I am very happy and excited for this new stage in my life. Playing for an important team like CSKA is a big challenge,” Rodriguez said via a statement. “I will go to Moscow and give it [my] all to compete for all the titles that we will play for. It will be a great personal experience to live in Moscow with my family, and get to know its culture.”
The Spanish-born Rodriguez, the 27th overall pick in the 2006 Draft, has averaged 4.9 points and 3.4 assists in five NBA seasons with the Blazers, Knicks, Kings, and Sixers.
He also played six seasons in Spain with Real Madrid, guiding the team to four Final Four appearances (2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015), three straight Finals, and the EuroLeague championship in 2015, the club’s first title in two decades.
Rodriguez has also led the Spanish national team to two Olympic gold medals – silver in 2012, and bronze in 2016.
