D-League player and Former Baylor star Pierre Jackson has signed a 10-day contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
It is his second stretch with the Mavs this season
Jackson was called up by Dallas on Dec. 27, but was released less than two weeks later after averaging 3 points and 7.1 minutes in four games with the club.
The explosive 5-10 point guard is leading the NBADL in scoring, averaging a whopping 29.6 points, along with 6.7 assists (5th in league) and 4.2 rebounds for the Texas Legends this season.
Jackson is shooting a blistering 53 percent from the field and 45 percent from behind the arc, while averaging 1.8 steals.
Jackson’s high-flying scoring in the D-League isn’t new.
He averaged 29.1 points and 6.2 assists back in 2013-14 for the Idaho Stampede, including pouring in a record-breaking 58 points in one game that season.
“What he lacks in visual stature, he more than compensates for with explosive quickness, an ability to stop on a dime and pull-up for a jumper on a dime, and the tenacity to attack the rim and finish through contact,” wrote Fansided’s Chris Reichert of the 5-10 Jackson.
“One NBA comparison who immediately comes to mind is [the Celtics’] Isaiah Thomas,” adds Reichert. “The diminutive lefty heard a lot of the same concerns coming out of college and he’s translated into one of the more dynamic offensive guards in the NBA.”
A college star at Baylor, Jackson led the Big 12 in scoring (19.8) and assists (7.1) as a senior in 2012-13, becoming first player to lead a power-6 conference in both categories since Arizona’s Jason Terry in 1998-99.
He graduated No. 3 all-time in career assists, and No. 14 all-time in career scoring at the school.
Jackson was the 42nd overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Sixers.
