Long Beach’s Casper Ware Scores 24 In Australia

Former Long Beach State star and NBA player Casper Ware scored 24 points to lead Melbourne United past the Adelaide 36ers 99-91 in Australia’s National Basketball League.

The 5-10 guard drained 3 threes, while sinking 9-of-10 from the line.

Ware also had 5 assists and 2 rebounds in the game.

Tai Wesley (Utah St.) added 14 points and 7 rebounds for Melbourne in the win.

For Adelaide, Daniel Johnson (Pepperdine) had 20 points with 10 rebounds, while Shannon Shorter (North Texas) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

But the star of the game was Ware, who is second in the NBL in assists this season, averaging 14.5 points and 4.8 dimes for Melbourne.

This summer he led Team Challenge ALS to The ($2 million) Basketball Tournament championship game, pouring in 28 points in the team’s 88-83 win over Scarlet & Gray in the TBT semifinals.

Ware also played with Melbourne last season, when he was the NBL’s second leading scorer at 22.1 ppg.

In addition, he played in the France Pro A last year, where he averaged 12.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 rebounds for ASVEL, leading the team to the championship.

Ware was also named the LNB Finals MVP.

Prior to playing in France, Ware was in the China’s CBA league where he averaged 20.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1.3 steals for TianJin Steel.

He also scored 31 points, including pouring in 27 in the third quarter, to lead BB4L to the Los Angeles Drew League title two summers ago.

A college star at Long Beach State, Ware led the team in scoring and assists as a senior, averaging 17.4 points and 3.4 dimes to guide the school to a 25-9 record and the NCAA Tournament.

Undrafted, Ware played part of one season in the NBA with the Sixers.
