New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis scored 19 points to lead Latvia past Montenegro 100-68 to reach the 2017 FIBA Eurobasket quarterfinals.
The 7-3 forward made 3 threes, while shooting a blistering 67 percent (2-of-3) from behind the arc and 60 percent (5-of-8) from the field overall.
Porzingis also had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in the game.
Janis Timma (2013 60th overall Draft pick by the Grizzlies) added 21 points in the round of 16 win for Latvia.
For Montenegro, Bojan Dubljevic (2013 59th overall Draft pick by the Wolves) poured in 21 points, while Nikola Vucevic (Orlando Magic) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.
But the star of the game was Porzingis, who is the third leading scorer at the 2017 Eurobasket, averaging 21.8 points and 5.7 rebounds.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Porzingis has averaged 16.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.9 rejections in two seasons with the Knicks.
Porzingis, a three-point shooting and shot blocking “Unicorn,” took the NBA by storm as a rookie in 2015-16 when he averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.9 blocks, and finished second to the Wolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns in the Rookie of the Year voting.
