The New York Knicks’ Mindaugas Kuzminskas scored 14 points to lead Lithuania past Italy 78-73 at the 2017 FIBA EuroBasket.
The 6-9 forward sank 3 threes while adding a steal and a blocked shot.
Adas Juskevicius added 20 points off the bench and Jonas Valanciunas (Toronto Raptors) had 13 points with 8 rebounds for Lithuania (2-1) in the win.
For Italy, Luigi Datome poured in 24 points, while Marco Belinelli (Atlanta Hawks) added 14 points in the loss.
But the star of the game was Kuzminskas, who also had 18 points in Lithuania’s loss to Georgia in their EuroBasket opener, and scored 16 in the team’s win over Israel.
The sweet-shooting big man averaged 6.3 points and 1.9 rebounds this season in an impressive rookie year with the Knicks.
“Kuzminskas displayed an intriguing proficiency [with the Knicks] from beyond the arc in 2016-17,” wrote dailyknicks.com’s Maxwell Ogden. “He knocked down 54 three-point field goals in his 68 games played, converting at a clip of 1.9 three-point field goals made per 40 minutes.”
“If his play at EuroBasket 2017 is a sign of things to come, then Kuzminskas should be even better from distance in 2017-18,” added Ogden.
