Former Kentucky star James Young has been named the NBA G League’s Performer of the Week.
The 6-6, 215-pound shooting guard averaged 34.5 points and 7.5 rebounds on 63 percent shooting last week for the Wisconsin Herd, leading the team to a 2-0 record.
Young poured in a career-high 40 points in the team’s 132-125 win over the Maine Red Claws.
He shot a blistering 80 percent (12-of-15) from the field, 57 percent (4-of-7) from three-point range, and 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the line in the victory.
On the season, Young is leading the G League in scoring, averaging a whopping 29.6 points a game.
A college star at Kentucky, Young was the team’s second leading scorer as a freshman in 2013-14, averaging 14.3 points and 4.3 rebounds, while leading the team to a 29-11 record and the NCAA Tournament Final.
The 17th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by Boston, Young has averaged 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in three NBA seasons with the Celtics.
ESPN’s No. 8 ranked player in the 2013 high school class, Young averaged 27.2 points, 16.0 rebounds, and 5.7 assists as a senior at Rochester HS (MI).
