ESPN No. 28 ranked high school junior Silvio De Sousa has committed to Kansas.
The 6-9 power forward out of IMG Academy (FL) averaged 20.5 points and 8.2 rebounds this spring for the Florida Vipers on the Under Armour Association circuit.
De Sousa, an African native, also averaged 17.3 points and 13.1 rebounds this summer at the U19 World Cup for Angola.
“I felt like that was the place I wanted to be,” De Sousa told the Journal-World of choosing Kansas. “The culture and the coaches were so great around me. That’s one of the things I’ve been looking for and I found that in them.”
De Sousa’s guardian Fenny Falmagne said the Jayhawks are getting a gem in the athletic and versatile big man.
“He truly is a freak of nature,” Falmagne told the Kansas City Star. “His upside is just out of this world. He’s a kid that can put his shoulder on the rim. He can dribble, he can shoot, he can post up, he has great footwork. More than that, he’s just a great kid.”
Zagsblog’s Adam Zagoria loves De Sousa’s game.
“[He] has a tremendous motor and gets up and down the court in a hurry,” wrote Zagoria.” He’s also great in the post and near the basket.”
The Jayhawks beat out the likes of Louisville, Florida, Maryland, and LSU to land De Sousa.
He is KU’s first recruit in the 2018 class.
