ESPN No. 44 ranked high school junior shooting guard Antoine Davis has committed to the University of Houston.
The 6-1 backcourt man out of Homeschool Christian Youth Association (TX) was the second leading scorer for Houston Hoops this season in the Nike EYBL, averaging 12.9 points on 45 percent shooting from three.
He is the son of Texas Southern coach Mike Davis.
“I committed to U of H,” Antoine Davis told fox26houston.com. “I talked to my dad about it. It’s the best place for me. It’s a great fit for me. We both made that decision.”
“[Dad] said if I don’t go play for him, go play for somebody that can coach,” added Davis. “He said [UH] Coach [Kelvin] Sampson is a really good coach. It was a tough decision, but I felt like I made the right one.”
Davis’ dead-eye shooting is his greatest strength.
“Make no mistake about it, Antoine is an elite shooter in every sense of the word,” reads Endless Motor’s analysis. “He’s currently shooting an absurd 45.3% from beyond the arch on 86 attempts during EYBL play.”
“What makes his numbers truly special is the level of difficulty on a good portion of his shots,” the website adds. “Davis is not simply a catch and shoot type that comes off screens, he knocks down contested jumpshots off the bounce in isolation situations with regularity as well.”
Houston beat out the likes of UMass, Texas A&M, UTEP, and Nevada to land Davis.
