The Yellow Jackets have a gem in ESPN No. 56 ranked high school senior and Georgia Tech signee Michael Devoe.
“Mike Devoe isn’t an under-the-radar prospect but the Georgia Tech commit is a deeply undervalued one as he has all of the makings of an all-league performer,” wrote Rivals’ Corey Evans. “The lefty posted two 20-plus-point outings, averaged more than four assists, and made all but two of his two-point field goals attempts [at Hoopsgiving] in Atlanta. He looks to be a building block recruit for [head coach] Josh Pastner.”
And Rivals.com’s Dan McDonald thinks Devoe will be a perfect fit at Georgia Tech next season.
[Ramblin’ Wreck] freshman guard Jose Alvarado is off to a great start this year. Pairing him with four-star guard Devoe next year will solidify the backcourt for the next three years,” wrote McDonald. “Both are capable scorers and capable of running the offense, so they should fit perfectly next to each other.”
Devoe, a 6-4 point guard, averaged 22.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists last season for Oak Ridge (Orlando, FL).
He also had a strong summer, leading his EYBL Nike South Beach team in scoring and assists, averaging 15.8 points and 4.6 dimes.
In July Devoe transferred to basketball power Montverde Academy for his senior season.
His Oak Ridge coach O’Neil Lubin said that the Yellow Jackets are getting a complete player in Devoe, who also has a 4.5 GPA and is on the honor roll.
“He can score on all three levels (inside, mid-range, and outside), rebound at a high level, and is very active defensively and he is also our best passer,” Lubin told the Orlando Sentinel. “He has been our most consistent player due to his strong work ethic and our younger guys are following in his footsteps.”
