ESPN No. 93 ranked high school senior JaMarko Pickett has committed to Georgetown and new head coach Patrick Ewing.
The 6-9 forward averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks this season for Massanutten Military Academy (Woodstock, VA).
Pickett had previously signed with Ole Miss, but decommitted in mid-July.
“He picked them because he felt like he could go in there and contribute immediately,” Massanutten coach Chad Myers told Scout. “Playing time along with location was the determining the factor for him.”
Myers said the Hoyas are getting a very skilled player in Pickett.
“I think he’s a versatile forward that can play both forward positions,” said Myers. “He can score at all three levels and his length allows him to guard multiple positions.”
Pickett picked Georgetown over nearby Maryland.
“It appears that Pickett chose the opportunity to start and be one of the top scorers for the rebuilding Hoyas under first-time head coach Patrick Ewing over being more a role player — at least next season — while coming off the bench for the Terps,” wrote The Baltimore Sun’s Don Markus.
At Georgetown, Pickett will join fellow 2017 recruits No. 26 C Chris Sodom, power forward Antwan Walker, and point guard Jahvon Blair.
