Former Florida State star and NBA player Von Wafer poured in a whopping 53 points to lead Shaanxi past Henan 130-129 in China’s NBL league.
The 6-5, 209-pound shooting guard sank 9 threes, while shooting a blistering 73 percent (11-of-15) from two-point range and 53 percent (9-of-17) from behind the arc.
Wafer also had 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals in the game.
Charles Gaines (S. Mississippi) added 29 points and 21 rebounds for Shaanxi in the victory.
For Henan, Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (CS Fullerton) poured in 43 points, while Chris Otule (Marquette) added 29 points with 19 rebounds in the loss.
But the star of the game was Wafer, who is averaging an eye-popping 46 points a game for Shaanxi this season.
A college star at Florida State, Wafer led the team in scoring as a sophomore in 2004-05, averaging 12.5 points and 2.5 rebounds.
The 39th overall pick in the 2005 Draft, he averaged 5.3 points and 1.2 rebounds in six NBA seasons with the Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, Blazers, Rockets, Celtics, and Magic.
A prep standout at Pineview High School (Lisbon, LA), Wafer averaged 32 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists as a junior.
