Final Roster Named For USA U23 Women’s Team

USA basketball has revealed the final 12-person roster for the U23 women’s national team.

The 12 players were chosen from a group of 36 finalists who competed at the U23 National Team Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The team will play in the 2017 U23 Four Nations Tournament August 12-15 in Tokyo, Japan.

The USA squad will continue to train in Colorado Springs until Aug. 7, before leaving for Tokyo.

“We were very impressed during training camp,” USA Junior National Team Committee Chair Jennifer Rizzotti told usab.com. “It was an impressive list to begin with, but to see how hard they competed and how important it was for them to be here – nobody took the week off, nobody didn’t put in maximum effort, and that is what made the committee’s job so hard.”

Now, USA U23 head coach Jeff Walz said it’s time to get the final squad to start meshing together as a team.

“There is a lot of individual talent that now as a coaching staff we are going to have to put together and figure out different combinations of how we play to their strengths,” said Walz.

Below is the complete U23 roster:

Ariel Atkins (Texas/Duncanville, Texas); Monique Billings (UCLA/Corona, Calif.); Kalani Brown (Baylor/Slidell, La.); Jordin Canada (UCLA/Los Angeles, Calif.); Asia Durr (Louisville/ Douglasville, Ga.); Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon/Walnut Creek, Calif.); Brittany McPhee (Stanford/Normandy Park, Wash.); Kelsey Mitchell  (Ohio State/Cincinnati, Ohio); Jamie Nared (Tennessee/Portland, Ore.); Arike Ogunbowale (Notre Dame/Milwaukee, Wis.); Mercedes Russell (Tennessee/Springfield, Ore.); *A’ja Wilson (South Carolina/Hopkins, S.C.); and Linnae Harper (Ohio State/Chicago, Ill.)

*A’ja Wilson had to pull out and was replaced by Linnae Harper
