Duke super freshman Marvin Bagley III, ESPN’s No. 1 ranked player in the 2017 high school class, was named to the Preseason All-ACC 1st Team.
Bagley has already made his presence known in Durham with 16 points and 6 rebounds in the Blue Devils 93-60 exhibition opening win over Div. II champ Northwest Missouri State on Friday.
The 6-11 forward averaged 24.6 points and 10.1 rebounds on 66 percent shooting last season for Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA), leading the team to a 27-3 record.
He also had an outstanding spring, averaging a whopping 25.8 points, 14.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks in the Nike EYBL for Phoenix Phamily.
Then Bagley dominated against pros and college players in the Drew League this summer, pouring in 32 points for his LA United team against the Home Town Favorites, and notching a monster 18-point, 20-rebound double-double against Seattle.
“[He’s] maybe the best prospect since Anthony Davis,” said ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.
Scout’s Evan Daniels loves Bagley’s game.
“Bagley is a scorer with impressive versatility for a 6-foot-11 power forward,” wrote Daniels. “It’s clear that the game comes easy to him and it almost appears effortless when he dominates the competition.”
“Bagley has a bag full of tricks, including touch shots, running hooks and other impressive post moves,” Daniels added.
Formerly the nation’s No. 1 ranked high school junior, Marvin Bagley reclassified to the 2017 class in August and bumped senior Michael Porter to take the top spot in the 2017 rankings.
