Duke Gets No 5 Sr Trevon Duval

ESPN No 5 ranked high school senior Trevon Duval has committed to Duke.

The 6-3 point guard averaged 16.2 points and 7.7 assists for powerhouse IMG Academy (FL) this year, leading the team to a 26-1 regular season record and the school’s first ever DICK’S Nationals tournament.

“I’m excited to evolve as a student, as a basketball player and now, and forever, as a Blue Devil,” Duval told The Players Tribune.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said he was thrilled to land the talented Duval, one of the top high school players in the nation.

“Trevon is a prototypical point guard: a heady, aggressive leader with a great feel for the game and the ability to make others better,” Krzyzewski told goduke.com. “His natural leadership ability and relentless competitiveness set him apart from others at his position. Trevon will be a great fit at Duke and I’m thrilled that he’s chosen to be part of our program.”

He averaged 15.9 points a game for St. Benedict’s (Newark, NJ) as a sophomore, leading the team to the Prep A title.

Duval then transferred to API (Dallas, TX) where he played his junior season alongside top recruits Terrance Ferguson (Australia NBL) and No. 17 Sr. and Kansas commit Billy Preston.

He also had a great spring and summer on the Under Armour circuit last season, averaging 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2 steals a game for WE R1.

Duval also poured in 25 points with 7 assists to lead Team Drive past Team Clutch 140-136 in OT at last August’s Under Armour Elite 24 showcase in Brooklyn.

Oklahoma Rivals loves the athletic Duval’s game.

“The Dallas star is almost unstoppable off-the-dribble, as he can break down a defense and penetrate the lane at will,” the analysis reads. “[He] possesses the explosion for ferocious dunks at the rim as well.”

The Blue Devils beat out Kansas, Arizona, Seton Hall, and Baylor to get Duval.

Duval will be joining a loaded Duke team that includes fellow 2017 recruits No. 4 Wendell Carter, No. 7 Gary Trent Jr., No. 40 Jordan Tucker, No. 85 Alex O’Connell, and No. 47 PG Jordan Goldwire.
