Clark Atlanta Wins SIAC Tournament

Clark Atlanta beat Fort Valley State 64-62 to win the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament championship in Birmingham, AL.

Senior forward Chuka Eneh drained a clutch game-winning three-pointer with four seconds left to give Clark their first SIAC title since 2011.

Senior guard Tim Sanders scored a game high 16 points in Saturday’s win and was named the tournament MVP.

Senior guard Lawrence Triplett and junior guard Anthony Williams each had 13 points and 5 rebounds, while senior guard Tajai Johnson pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds for Clark Atlanta in the victory.

The difference in the close win was the Clark Panthers’ proficiency from the three-point line.

Clark shot 42 percent (5-of-12) from behind the arc, while Fort Valley State was a woeful 18 percent (2-of-11) on triples.

With the win, Clark Atlanta earned an automatic berth to the 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Division II Championship which starts on Friday, March 10.
