China’s Orlando Johnson Signs With Magic

China league player Orlando Johnson has signed with the Orlando Magic.

The 6-5, 220-pound shooting guard averaged 36.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists this summer for the Guangxi Rhinos of the Chinese NBL league.

Johnson also played in the D-League this season, averaging 15.5 points and 5.3 rebounds on 46 percent shooting from three for the Austin Spurs.

He also was with the Austin Spurs in 2014-15 when he averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.

A college star at UC Santa Barbara, Johnson led the team in scoring (19.7 ppg), assists (2.9 apg), and steals (34) as a senior in 2011-12 when he was named to the All-Big West First Team.

He graduated as the school’s all-time leading scorer, despite playing there for only three seasons.

The 36th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Kings, Johnson has averaged 3.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in parts of three NBA seasons with the Pacers, Kings, Pelicans, and Suns.

As a rookie with the Pacers in 2012-13, Johnson demonstrated a good shooting stroke, shooting 38 percent (36-94) from three-point range.

The well-traveled Johnson has also played overseas in Italy (Enel Brindisi), the Philippines (Barangay Ginebra), and Spain (Laboral Kutxa).
