G League Herd Get Rhode Island’s Xavier Munford

G League Herd Get Rhode Island’s Xavier Munford

The G League’s Wisconsin Herd have acquired Rhode Island’s Xavier Munford in a trade with the Greensboro Swarm.   In addition to the returning player rights to Munford, the Herd received a second-round draft pick in 2018.   In return, the Swarm got the Herd’s 2017 and 2018 first round picks.   The G League Draft is next Saturday.   Munford was with the Milwaukee Bucks (the Herd’s parent team) before being waived last week.   “Xavier has competed at the highest levels of professional basketball in the NBA, NBA G League and internationally,” Herd General Manager Dave Dean said via a statement. “After working with Xavier throughout Bucks training camp, we see untapped potential and could not be more excited to add the former NBA G League All-Star to the Herd roster.”   Munford, a 6-3 point guard, was a member of the gold-medal winning 2017 USA AmeriCup Team this summer, averaging 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3 assists.   He averaged 18.5 points and 5.3 assists for the Swarm last season.   A college star at Rhode Island, Munford led the team in scoring as a senior, averaging 16.9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.   He scored over 1,000 points for the Rams in only two seasons.   Before transferring to Rhode Island, Munford played at JUCO Iowa Western College, averaging an ICCAC conference high 16.6 points a game on 37 percent shooting from three, and leading the school to a 24-9 record.   Undrafted, Munford played with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2015-16, averaging 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 14 games.   In the process he became the first Rhode Island player to debut in an NBA game since Lamar Odom back in 1999 (according to the Providence Journal).     For more basketball news to go http://www.blacktoptv.com/
