Kansas’ Julian Wright Scores 19 In Italy

Former Kansas star and NBA player Julian Wright scored 19 points for Grissin Bon RE in a 77-67 loss to Banco di Srd in Italy’s Serie A league.   The 6-8 forward shot a red-hot 69 percent (9-of-13) from the field.   Wright also had 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and an assist in the game.   Amedeo Della-Valle added 11 points for Grissin Bon in the loss.   For Banco di Srd, Shawn Jones (Middle Tenn. State) had a team-high 15 points with 8 rebounds in the victory.   But the star of the game was Wright, comes from the Turkish BSL where he averaged 13.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3 assists this season for Trabzonspor.   Last season Wright also played in Italy, averaging 14.4 points and 7.3 rebounds for Dolomiti Energia Trento and leading the team to the Italian Cup Semifinals.   He was named an Italian league All-Star that year.   A college star at Kansas, Wright was the team’s top rebounder and third leading scorer as a sophomore, averaging 12 points and 7.8 boards to lead the Jayhawks to the 2007 NCAA Tournament’s West Regional Final.   The 13th overall pick in the 2007 Draft by New Orleans, Wright has averaged 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in four NBA seasons with the Pelicans and Raptors.   A prep star at Homewood-Flossmoor High School (IL), Wright averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists as a senior, leading the team to a 27-4 record.   He was also a McDonalds All-American and first team all-state selection that season.   For more basketball news go to http://www.blacktoptv.com
