Changes Could Be Coming To One-And-Done Rule

Changes Could Be Coming To One-And-Done Rule

Changes could be coming to the NBA’s one-and-done rule that currently requires athletes to play one year in college before coming to the Association.   NBA commissioner Adam Silver and NBPA executive director Michele Roberts met with the newly formed Commission on College Basketball last Thursday in Washington DC to discuss ways to reshape the rule.   The commission was put together in the wake of the ongoing FBI college basketball bribery investigation, and is headed by Condoleezza Rice   “There's a growing belief within the league that Silver's desire to end the one-and-done could be pushing the sport closer to high school players having the opportunity to directly enter the league again,” wrote ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.   There has been widespread outcry against the one-and-done regulation which makes college simply a required one-year stopover for top recruits, not an institution of higher learning.   “The one-and-done rule is something I’ve made no secret about how much I dislike it,” NCAA president Mark Emmert said at LSU’s inaugural Sports Communication Summit last year. “It makes a farce of going to school.”   “I’d love nothing more than for the NBA to get rid of that rule,” added Emmert. “We’ve made it really clear to the [NBA] players union and the leadership of the NBA that we very much would like it changed.”   Well now, Emmert may be close to getting his wish.     For more basketball news go to
