ESPN No. 28 ranked high school senior power forward Reggie Chaney has committed to Arkansas.
The 6-8 big man averaged 11.2 points and 7.3 rebounds on 66 percent shooting last season for basketball power Findlay Prep (Henderson, NV).
Chaney also had a strong spring, leading his Nike EYBL RM5 Elite squad in rebounding, averaging 11.4 points and 7 boards.
“I just feel like it’s the right decision for me and they fit my playing style,” Chaney told arkansasonline.com of choosing Arkansas. “They get up and down, tough and aggressive.”
Razorback assistant coach and school legend Scotty Thurman was key to Chaney’s recruitment.
“He was definitely on me,” said Chaney. “After every visit he asked me how it went. He just showed love from the start. He was there from day one. He was at a lot of my games during the summer and that meant a lot to me.”
Sporting Life Arkansas’ Kevin McPherson loves Chaney’s game.
“He not only has good bounce, but he’s quick and nimble with good handles for a solidly built power forward — a combo that allows him to blow by other forwards before exploding to the basket,” wrote McPherson. “As to the fit in [Hogs head coach Mike] Anderson’s Fastest 40 system, Chaney’s talent, size, and athleticism seem perfect for it.”
The Razorbacks beat out the likes of Wichita State, TCU, and Texas A&M to land Chaney.
At Arkansas, Chaney will join fellow 2018 recruits No. 88 Ethan Henderson and No. 46 PG Isaiah Joe.
