Arkansas’ Courtney Fortson Scores 40 In China

Former Arkansas star Courtney Fortson poured in 40 points to lead the Guangsha Lions past the Zhejiang Golden Bulls 103-97 in the Chinese Basketball Association.

 

The 5-11 guard also had 10 assists and 15 rebounds to record an impressive triple double.

 

Fortson also sank 2 threes and had 2 steals in the game.

 

Jinqiu Hu added 22 points and 12 rebounds for Guangsha in the victory,

 

For Zhejiang, Jarnell Stokes (Tennessee) had 30 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 blocks in the loss.

 

But the star of the game was Fortson, who is third in the CBA in assists this season and is sixth in scoring, averaging 36.5 points and 9 dimes for Guangsha.

 

Fortson, who also played for Guangsha last season, comes from Turkey’s BSL league, where he averaged 16.3 points, 6.5 assists (2nd in the league), and 1.2 steals for Banvit Basketbol Kulubu in 2015-16

 

In 2014-15 he was in Russia’s VTB United League, averaging 19.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 1.4 steals for Avtodor.

 

Fortson played briefly for the Houston Rockets and Los Angles Clippers in 2011-2012, where he averaged 3.5 points and 1 assist in 10 games.

 

He also played with Los Angeles D-Fenders in the NBA Development League, making the D-League All-Star team in 2013.

 

In his final season at Arkansas in 2009-2010, Fortson led the team in scoring at 17.9 points per game and was tops in the SEC in assists.
