Former Alabama star Tony Mitchell has signed with Indios de Mayaguez of Puerto Rico’s BSN league.
The 6-6 forward comes from the Australian NBL where he averaged 8.6 points and 2.4 rebounds with the Cairns Taipans this season, helping lead them to NBL’s second best record and the playoff semifinals.
Mitchell also played this year in Israel’s Winner League, averaging 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals for Hapoel Eilat.
Prior to that he was in the China NBL where he led the league in scoring, averaging a whopping 42.9 points along with 10.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 2.5 steals, and 2.2 blocks for Hebei Xianglan, guiding the team to the NBL playoff semifinals.
Last season Mitchell was in the Italian Serie A league averaging 8.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3 assists for Banco di Srd.
He also played part of last year in the Spain’s Liga Endesa with Movistar Estudiantes, and with Russia’s Krasny Oktyabr, where he averaged 27.5 points and 6 boards in the VTB United League.
A college star at Alabama, Mitchell was the team’s second leading scorer and rebounder as a sophomore, averaging 15.2 points and 7.1 rebounds.
He was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and was second-team All-SEC as a sophomore.
Undrafted, Mitchell played part of the 2013-14 season with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Ranked the No. 38 prospect out of high school, Mitchell averaged 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists as a senior at Swainsboro HS (GA).
