8th grade star Addison Potts already has six scholarship offers from Division I colleges.
The 13-year-old has offers from Illinois, Missouri, Iowa State, USF, FGCU, and Kansas.
The 5-10 Potts is averaging 18.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.5 steals this season for Gateway Charter school (FL).
She is shooting a red-hot 48 percent on threes, leading a young team which has two 8th graders and two 7th graders on its eight-player roster to a 9-0 record this year.
“I just think it’s a blessing,” Potts told the Fort Myers News-Press of her college offers. “I never thought it would happen this early. I don’t let it get to me that much, but I take it in. They’re expecting me to get better. They’re not offering me for my skill right now.”
But Potts’ talent is already off the charts as she recently drilled 8-of-12 threes during a 33-point explosion against LaBelle.
She started doing complex ball-handling and shooting drills at 8 years old and then mastered them (see video clip below).
Then she grew 6-7 inches last year.
However with all the early attention in her career, Potts said she just wants to stay humble.
“I’ve seen people that are really cocky,” said Potts. “I don’t like how they act. I don’t want to be like that.”
